Air purifier as a dust absorber? Yes, but…
Does an air purifier absorb dust?
Yes, but first of all, not all air purifiers do, and secondly, none will completely eliminate dust. Klarta air purifiers are designed to capture, among other things, dust, but they won't make it completely disappear from your home. Here's what features an effective dust-fighting device should have and what to do to get the best results.
Technologies in a dust air purifier
First of all, a dust absorber must use appropriate technologies.
Pre-filter
Let's start with the pre-filter, as it constitutes the first stage of air purification, during which larger contaminants, including dust, are trapped. This filter is in the form of a fine mesh located just behind the removable cover of the purifier.
The advantage of the pre-filter is that it can (and even should) be cleaned, allowing easy removal of accumulated dust from the surface.
H13 technologies
Another element of the filtering system that removes dust from the air is the HEPA technology. This filter can trap the finest dust, as well as the dust mites living in it, whose secretions are a common allergen.
Dust absorber cleaning efficiency
The second feature determining the effectiveness of an air purifier in removing dust is CADR, or cleaning efficiency. The surface area of the room where the device is to operate significantly affects the demand. We offer two air purifiers designed for different interiors:
- Klarta Forste, with an efficiency of 300 m³/h, will work well in rooms up to 430 ft². It's ideal for bedrooms and children's rooms.
- Klarta Stor, with an efficiency of 600 m³/h, is suitable for rooms up to 860 ft². It is an excellent choice for living rooms.
Air purifier as a hair absorber?
For pet owners, hair is usually a bigger problem than dust. Will an air purifier help in this case? Yes, but just like with dust, it will not completely remove hair. Some hairs, especially those lost near the purifier, will be captured.
How to use an air purifier to effectively absorb dust
The effectiveness of an air purifier in removing dust is partly dependent on its proper use. Here are some tips to get the most benefit from your device.
Frequent cleaning of the pre-filter
The above photo shows a pre-filter from a Klarta Forste air purifier covered with dust and hair. A large amount of contaminants on the filter surface hinders air flow, negatively affecting the purification efficiency. Therefore, regular cleaning of the pre-filter is essential.
You can clean it with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush, working at low speed.
H13 filter replacement
A heavily contaminated H13 filter also reduces the purifier's efficiency. Our air purifiers have indicators that remind you to replace this element. However, it's important to know that the degree of filter wear depends on the air quality where the purifier is used. If the filter has turned from white to dark gray or black, it should be replaced with a new one.
Proper air purifier placement
The proper placement of the purifier is also important. Air should circulate freely around it, so we advise against placing the device in a recess or under a desk. Do not block the air inlets and outlets.
Is a dust absorber necessary? A few words about dust harmfulness
Dust is a mixture of fine particles. Depending on the circumstances, it may contain:
- Shed skin
- Sand particles
- Dust mites and their secretions
- Dead insect fragments
- Insect eggs and droppings
- Animal hair
- Human hair
- Plant pollen
- Fibers from clothes, bedding, etc.
- Bacteria
- Mold spores
- Food remnants
- Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and chemical compounds
As you can see, this list includes not only components harmful to allergy sufferers but also those that are dangerous to everyone. Therefore, it is worth reducing the amount of dust in your home.
However, it doesn't need to be done obsessively. Many specialists point out that creating sterile conditions at home negatively affects the immune system, especially in the youngest.
An air purifier does not completely eliminate dust but reduces its amount. It's an optimal solution for health and a big convenience, as it allows you to vacuum furniture a bit less frequently. Therefore, it's worth having an air purifier and using it. Especially since it protects not only against dust.
