Reading stuck at 999The number will not come down
The air quality number sits at 999
999 on the display means the PM2.5 sensor is probably dusty. Cleaning it takes a few minutes and a can of compressed air.
-
Rule out a real spike15 min
Cooking, aerosols, candles and vacuuming can push the reading up. Close the windows, wait 15 minutes and look again.
-
Unplug the purifier1 min
Switch it off and pull the plug before you open anything.
-
Clean the sensor with compressed air3 min
Open the small sensor flap — on the left side of the Forste, on the back left of the Stor — and blow compressed air into the sensor opening.
-
Plug it back in1 min
When you switch it on, the purifier warms up its sensors for 10 seconds and then starts in Auto. Check the reading in clean air.
If it spikes again during cooking or cleaning, that is the sensor doing its job — Auto mode will handle it.
Still 999 in clean air after cleaning the sensor? Email us the model and a photo of the display and we will take it from there. support@klarta.com
It got louderNew noise or higher speed
The device is louder than it used to be
Separate two things first: a higher fan speed (the device reacting to dirty air) from a new mechanical noise (something touching something).
-
Check the mode1 min
In auto, speed follows the air quality reading. A jump after cooking or opening a window is expected behavior, not a fault.
-
Check the filters3 min
Unplug it and take the filters out. Make sure the plastic wrap is off every filter and each one sits in the right order and direction, as shown in the manual.
-
Look into the fan grille5 min
Unplug first. Pet hair, a wrapper or a coin against the blade gives a tick or a scrape once per turn.
-
Give it some space1 min
A purifier boxed into a corner is louder and cleans less. Leave about 8 in of clear space on every side.
For reference: the Forste runs from 20 dB(A) in Sleep mode to 66 dB(A) on its top speed, the Stor from 24 dB(A) to 71 dB(A).
A grinding or metallic noise that is still there with the filters seated correctly is not normal. Stop using it and email us the model and a short video of the sound. support@klarta.com
Air still feels staleIt runs, nothing improves
It runs but the air does not get better
Almost always one of four things: the room is too big, the filter is spent, the device is boxed in, or the source never stopped.
-
Check the room against the rating2 min
Forste is rated for rooms up to 1,237 sq ft and Stor up to 2,775 sq ft, both at 1 air change per hour. An open-plan kitchen and living room counts as one room.
-
Check the filters3 min
If FILTER is lit, or the filters have been in for a year or more, replace the H13 and carbon filters. Also check the pre-filter: vacuum it on low with a soft attachment.
-
Give it a fair position2 min
About 8 in of clear space on every side, nothing on top, and ideally between you and the source — the litter box, the kitchen, the street window.
-
Close the loop for an hour1 h
Windows and doors shut, device on high, then read it again. An open window resets the room faster than any purifier can clean it.
In a closed room of the right size the reading should come down as the purifier works; Auto mode speeds up as soon as the air gets worse.
If the reading does not move in a closed, correctly sized room with a fresh filter, send us the model and a photo of the display — that is not normal. support@klarta.com
It will not connectSmart Life cannot find it
The app cannot find the device
Klarta purifiers pair through the Smart Life app on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Most failed pairings come down to a 5 GHz network or a device that is not in pairing mode.
-
Use a 2.4 GHz network3 min
The purifiers do not connect to 5 GHz. If your router shows both bands under one name, use your router settings to give 2.4 GHz its own network for setup.
-
Put it in pairing mode1 min
Hold the Wi-Fi button for about 3 seconds, until it beeps and the Wi-Fi icon blinks. A steady icon means it is not in pairing mode.
-
Add it in Smart Life3 min
Open Smart Life, tap Add device and follow the prompts. The router needs WPA2-PSK or WPA-PSK security.
-
Move everything closer2 min
For the first pairing, keep the phone, the purifier and the router within a few feet of each other.
Once paired, you can move the purifier back to its room.
If the Wi-Fi icon never blinks, email us the model and your router brand. support@klarta.com
Filter light stays onNew filter, light still on
You changed the filter and the light is still on
Fitting new filters does not clear the FILTER indicator on its own — you reset the filter clock after the change.
-
Take the plastic wrap off1 min
Every filter ships wrapped. Take each one out of its plastic before you put it in; the purifier must never run with the wrap on or without filters.
-
Reset the filter clock1 min
Forste: in the Smart Life app, go to Settings > Reset filter. Stor: hold Reset for 6 seconds while FILTER is lit, or use Settings > Reset filter in the app.
-
Check it is the right set1 min
Forste and Stor each take their own genuine filter set, and the sets are not interchangeable. The model name is on the device.
-
Check the filter order2 min
Forste: carbon filter first, then H13, then the pre-filter. Stor: carbon filter first, then the H13 filter with its pre-filter mesh facing out.
The filter clock now runs from zero. Klarta recommends replacing the H13 and carbon filters at least once a year.
If FILTER stays lit after a reset, email us a photo of the panel. support@klarta.com
Humea
No mist coming outIt runs, nothing visible
You cannot see any mist
Humea is evaporative, not ultrasonic. Visible mist is not how it works — it should never produce a cloud. Judge it by the humidity reading instead.
-
Read the humidity, not the air1 h
Watch the humidity reading over an hour or two in a closed room. That is the real measure of output.
-
Check the water3 min
Two flashing lines on the display mean the water is low. Switch off and unplug, refill through the filling hatch up to the MAX mark, close the hatch and switch it back on.
-
Check the wick and the housing3 min
The wick should be damp and fitted correctly, with the upper housing seated squarely on the tank. A stiff, crusted wick needs replacing.
-
Raise the target1 min
When the room reaches the target, the fan drops to a very slow speed by design. Raise the target (40–75%) or choose CO for continuous running and see whether the fan picks up.
Most people find 40–60% comfortable. How fast a room gets there depends on its size, heating and ventilation.
Fresh wick, full tank, target raised and the humidity still flat after a few hours? Email us the model. support@klarta.com
Water or air smellsMusty or stale
There is a smell coming off it
Standing water is the usual cause. The Humea manual asks for fresh water every day and a tank wash every 1–2 days.
-
Change the water every day2 min
Switch off and unplug, pour out what is left and refill with fresh cold water. Do not top up old water.
-
Wash the tank every 1–2 days5 min
Use warm water up to 86 °F (30 °C) and a soft cloth. Once a week, wash it with a mild detergent and rinse it well.
-
Rinse the wick daily2 min
Rinse the wick under running water every day. For scale, soak it for 8–20 minutes in a 1:1 mix of vinegar and water, then rinse.
-
Dry it before storing—
If it will sit unused for more than 2 days, empty the tank and let the wick dry.
Fresh water daily, a tank wash every 1–2 days and a daily wick rinse — that is the routine in the manual.
If a new wick and a clean tank still smell after a day, stop using it and email us. support@klarta.com
Water on the floorPuddle under the base
It is leaking
Switch it off, unplug it and dry the base first. Then work through the usual causes, in this order.
-
Check the fill line2 min
Never fill above the MAX mark: overfilling pushes water out through the openings. Empty it back to the line.
-
Close the filling hatch1 min
Close the filling hatch after every refill, and never pour water in through the top vents or the outlet.
-
Put it on a level surface1 min
Stand it upright on a solid, flat, waterproof surface — never on a rug, a bed or a sofa — and do not tilt or move it while it runs.
-
Seat the upper housing2 min
With the unit unplugged, lift the upper housing and set it back squarely on the tank.
Filled to the line, hatch closed, on a level surface — that closes it in most cases.
If it still leaks, stop using it, photograph the tank and the base, and email us both. support@klarta.com
It will not connectSmart Life cannot find it
The app cannot find the device
Humea pairs through Smart Life on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, like the purifiers — but on the Humea you start pairing from the Auto button.
-
Use a 2.4 GHz network3 min
Humea does not connect to 5 GHz. If your router shows both bands under one name, give 2.4 GHz its own network for setup.
-
Hold Auto1 min
Hold the Auto button until the Wi-Fi icon flashes quickly. A steady icon means it is not in pairing mode.
-
Add it in Smart Life3 min
Open Smart Life, tap Add device and choose Auto Scan.
-
Move everything closer2 min
For the first pairing, keep the phone, the Humea and the router within a few feet of each other.
Once paired, you can move the Humea back to its room.
If the Wi-Fi icon never flashes, email us the model and your router brand. support@klarta.com
The wick turned yellowStained or crusty
The wick has gone yellow and hard
That is usually mineral staining from your tap water, not mold. It is common — but a stained wick also absorbs less water.
-
Check how long it has been in1 min
The wick lasts about 3–6 months, depending on your water hardness and how much you run it.
-
Try descaling it20 min
Soak the wick for 8–20 minutes in a 1:1 mix of vinegar and water, then rinse. The color may fade slightly.
-
Fit a new wick5 min
Switch off and unplug, lift the upper housing off the tank, swap the filter and refit the housing.
-
Reset the filter counter1 min
Hold On/Off for 3 seconds until it beeps. If the counter runs out, the display shows FR and the Humea stops until you do this.
A fresh wick restores full output — you should see the humidity climb faster the same evening.
If a brand-new wick discolors within weeks, send us a photo and your ZIP code and we will look at it. support@klarta.com

Air purifier · 1,237 sq ft
Most read for Forste
How many air purifiers do I need? How to use
One per room you spend the most time in — bedroom and living room first. Air does not move freely between closed rooms, so one purifier will not cover a whole apartment.
How does Auto mode work? How to use
A laser PM2.5 sensor reads the air and Auto mode sets the fan speed for you — quiet when the air is clean, faster as soon as the reading rises. It holds each speed for at least 4 minutes so it does not jump back and forth.
Where should I place the device? How to use
On the floor, near a wall or in the middle of the room, with about 8 in of clear space on every side. Keep it away from the stove and out of bathrooms.
The display shows 999 — what should I do? How to use
The PM2.5 sensor is probably dusty. Unplug the purifier, open the small flap on the left side and blow compressed air into the sensor opening.
Can I turn off the panel backlight? How to use
Yes. A short press of Sleep turns the lights off, and holding Sleep for 3 seconds starts Sleep mode, where the panel goes dark. In the app, use Modes > Backlight off.
Which purifier is right for me — Forste or Stor? How to use
Both filter the air through a pre-filter, an H13 filter and an activated carbon filter (on the Stor the pre-filter is built into the H13 filter). The Forste is rated for rooms up to 1,237 sq ft and the Stor up to 2,775 sq ft, both at 1 air change per hour. See Compare models.
The FILTER indicator is still on after a filter change — what now? Filters & cleaning
Reset the filter clock in the Smart Life app: Settings > Reset filter.
How often do I need to change the filters? Filters & cleaning
Klarta recommends replacing the H13 and carbon filters at least once a year; how long they last depends on how much you run it and on your local air. The FILTER indicator tells you when they are due.
Can the filters be washed? Filters & cleaning
Never wash the H13 or carbon filters. Check the pre-filter at least every 2 weeks and vacuum it on low with a soft attachment, or use a damp cloth if needed.

Humea
Humidifier · 0.8 gal (3 L) tank
Most read for Humea
How do I use the Klarta Humea correctly? How to use
Fill the tank with cold tap water through the filling hatch, then either set a target humidity (40–75%) or use Auto, which holds the room at 50%. At most it puts out about 10 fl oz (300 ml) of water an hour. Change the water every day.
Can the humidifier run all night? How to use
Yes. Sleep mode drops the fan to its lowest speed and turns the panel light off. As an estimate, a full 0.8 gal (3 L) tank lasts about 10 hours at the top output and longer at lower speeds. When the water runs low, the display shows two flashing lines and the fan dries the wick before it stops.
How long before I notice higher humidity? How to use
In a closed room of the right size, usually within an hour or two; a very dry home can take longer to level off. Keep doors closed for a faster effect.
Does the wick filter need cleaning every day? Filters & cleaning
Yes. Rinse it under running water every day and wash the tank every 1–2 days. For scale, soak the wick for 8–20 minutes in a 1:1 mix of vinegar and water. Replace it about every 3–6 months.
Where should I place the humidifier? How to use
Upright on a solid, flat, waterproof surface, at least 4 in from walls, never on a bed or sofa. Keep it away from radiators, heaters and direct sun, and keep the inlets and outlets clear.
How does Auto mode work? How to use
Auto holds the room at 50% relative humidity. Once the room gets there, the fan drops to a very slow speed, and it speeds up again when the humidity falls.
How much water does the Humea hold? How to use
The tank holds 0.8 gal (3 L).
Can I add essential oils or fragrance to the Humea? How to use
No. Do not add anything to the water — no fragrance or essential oils, cleaners or medicine. The Humea is not an aroma diffuser.
How often do I need to change the filter? Filters & cleaning
The evaporative wick lasts about 3–6 months, depending on your water hardness and use. When it is used up the display shows FR and the Humea stops; fit a new one, then hold On/Off for 3 seconds until it beeps.
