Klarta vs. Levoit vs. Coway vs. Dyson: An Honest Air Purifier Comparison

If you've spent any time shopping for an air purifier, you've probably narrowed it down to a handful of names: Levoit, Coway, Dyson, and maybe a newer brand like us. They all promise cleaner air. They all have HEPA filters. And they range in price from about a hundred dollars to well over six hundred. So what are you actually paying for?

Full disclosure up front: we make Klarta, so we're not a neutral party. To keep this fair, we've stuck to published manufacturer specs and list prices (as of October 2026), and we'll point out where other brands come out ahead. Prices move around a lot, especially on Amazon, so check current pricing before you buy.

The quick comparison

Model List price CADR (CFM) Room size at 1 ACH Quietest setting Filters
Klarta Forste $229 165 (PM2.5) 1,237 sq ft 20 dB(A) Pre-filter, H13, carbon
Klarta Stor $349 371 (PM2.5) 2,775 sq ft 24 dB(A) H13 with pre-filter, carbon
Levoit Core 400S $219.99 231 1,718 sq ft 22 dB 3-stage (pre, HEPA, carbon)
Coway Airmega Mighty (AP-1512HH) $239.99 233 smoke / 246 dust / 240 pollen 1,748 sq ft 24 dB(A) Pre-filter, deodorizing, HEPA, ionizer
Dyson Purifier Cool TP07 $649.99 About 90 (independent testing) Not rated the same way About 35–39 dB (independent testing) H13 HEPA with a thin carbon layer

First, what actually matters

Before we get into brands, it helps to know which numbers deserve your attention. The big one is CADR, or clean air delivery rate. It tells you how many cubic feet of filtered air a purifier puts out per minute. Higher CADR means the room gets cleaned faster. Everything else, from smart apps to color options, is secondary to that.

The second is noise at the speed you'll actually use. A purifier that's quiet only on its lowest setting isn't much use if you need to run it on medium to keep up with your room. The third is ongoing filter cost, because you'll be buying filters for as long as you own the machine.

If you want to dig deeper into sizing, our room size and CADR guide walks through the math.

Levoit Core 400S: the value pick

We'll say it plainly: on paper, the Core 400S gives you a lot of airflow for the money. At about $220 with a 231 CFM CADR, it moves more air than our Forste at a similar price. Levoit also has a big ecosystem, easy-to-find filters, and a solid app.

Where it falls short is mostly style and flexibility. It's a white or black cylinder, and that's about it. If the purifier is going to live in your living room or bedroom where you'll look at it every day, that matters more than people expect.

Coway Airmega Mighty: the long-running favorite

The Mighty has been around for years and has a loyal following for good reason. It's reliable, its CADR is strong for the price, and its filters are widely available. One thing to know: it includes an ionizer. You can switch it off, but if you're wary of anything that charges particles in the air, that's worth noting. We cover that topic in more detail in our post on ozone and ionizers.

Coway also lists a separate deodorizing filter with a shorter, roughly six-month life, which adds to running costs if you replace on schedule.

Dyson Purifier Cool TP07: the fan that also purifies

The Dyson is a beautiful machine and a genuinely good fan. If you want one device that cools you in summer and filters air year-round, it's appealing. But as a pure air purifier, independent testing puts its clean air output well below the other models here, and it costs roughly three times as much. Its replacement filters run about $80 a year.

If design is your priority and you also need a fan, it can make sense. If clean air is your priority, you get more filtration per dollar elsewhere.

Klarta Forste and Stor: where we fit

Klarta Stor and Klarta Forste air purifiers compared side by side

We designed our purifiers for people who want strong filtration but don't want a plastic appliance sitting in the middle of the room. The Klarta Forste comes in six finishes, including wood black, gold, pink and silver, and runs at 20 dB(A) in Sleep mode, which is quieter than a whisper. It's best for bedrooms, nurseries, offices and medium living rooms.

The Klarta Stor is our big-room model. With a 371 CFM PM2.5 CADR, it out-delivers every other purifier in this comparison and is built for open-plan living rooms, kitchens and large spaces up to 2,775 sq ft at one air change per hour.

Both use a true three-stage setup: a pre-filter for hair and dust, an H13 filter for fine particles like smoke, pollen and pet dander, and activated carbon for odors and VOCs. Neither uses an ionizer. Both have a laser PM2.5 sensor that drives Auto mode, Wi-Fi control through the Smart Life app, a remote, and a 2-year US warranty. Replacement filter sets are $48 for Forste and $68 for Stor, and we recommend changing them about once a year.

So which one should you buy?

  • Tight budget, medium room, don't care about looks: the Levoit Core 400S is hard to beat on airflow per dollar.
  • Want a proven workhorse with a long track record: the Coway Mighty is a safe choice. Just decide how you feel about the ionizer.
  • Need a fan and a purifier in one: the Dyson TP07 does both, at a premium.
  • Want something quiet that looks good in a bedroom or living space: the Klarta Forste.
  • Have a large, open room and want the most clean air output here: the Klarta Stor.

Not sure which Klarta fits your space? Our Forste vs. Stor comparison breaks it down by room size, noise and features.
